Photos already present in an album will be skipped, so you can freely add batches of photos without having to worry about duplicates. When selecting photos, tap a date icon to automatically select all photos taken on that day.

Why did photos disappear from Scene after I deleted them from my device?

Scene is primarily intended to be a viewer for photos stored on your device. When you delete a photo from your device, such as via the standard Photos app, that photo will no longer be shown in Scene. When you add a photo to a Scene album, a copy of that photo is saved to the album. Thus, if you later delete that photo from your device, the copy will still appear in the album. However, for the following reasons we do not recommend using Scene to save storage space on your device, for instance by adding photos to albums and then deleting them.

  • Copying photos to an album takes time, and occurs in the background. If you delete the original photo before the copy is completed, the photo will disappear from the album as well.
  • Copies stored in albums are shrunk to a size optimal for display on a smartphone; the original photos are not copied.

Please keep the above in mind when deleting photos from your device. If you have further questions, please contact us.

What happens if I delete a photo in Scene that represents multiple files on my device?

When you have multiple copies of the same photo on your device, Scene combines these into one item on the Photos screen. When such an item is deleted from the Photos screen, all files represented by that item will be deleted. However, any copies added to albums will remain undeleted.

If Scene combines identical photos, how can I delete just one of them?

As described in “What happens if I delete a photo in Scene that represents multiple files on my device?”, when deleting from the Photos screen all identical photos will be deleted at once.

To delete just a single copy of a photo, don’t delete from the Photos screen; instead first go to the folder containing the desired photo. Find the appropriate folder as follows:

  • Tap the ☰ icon in the upper left to open the drawer.
  • Tap Folders.
  • Tap the device shown under Local.
  • Tap the folder containing the photo you want to delete.

See “How can I find the save location or filename of a photo?” to check which folder a photo is stored in.
